The Town of Abita Springs received funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets & Roads for All (SS4A) grant program. This grant will allow the Town to create a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan, outlining projects and interventions aimed at reducing and eliminating serious injuries and fatal crashes affecting all roadway users: vehicles, transit riders, bicyclists, mobility device users, pedestrians, etc.

The Town is looking for volunteers to take part in a Safety Task Force of 6-10 individuals to help guide the plan’s development and goal setting. To participate, you must:

  • Be a resident or stakeholder (ex: business owner) of the Town of Abita Springs.

  • Attend 3 meetings (1.5 hours long) between August-November 2024 at Town Hall.

  • Commit to 1-2 hours of background reading, document review, and sharing your thoughts within 1 week of each meeting.

  • Be available via email to receive documents, meeting updates, etc.

  • Have a willingness to participate in the safe streets planning process, including sharing information about progress and community engagement opportunities with your network.

Sign up here: https://arcg.is/e1brq. This call for Safety Task Force volunteers will be open through Sunday, August 11, 2024. The first meeting will be Wednesday, August 21, 2024 (time to be determined based upon availability question in survey).

If you are not chosen for the Safety Task Force, there will be a variety of other opportunities to participate including stakeholder interviews, community meetings, youth engagement, tabling at events, and online surveys. To be informed of upcoming opportunities, please sign up for the project’s email mailing list https://arcg.is/1zemym0

Thank you for your consideration and please feel free to share with others in the community!
